About

Hi

I am a Staff Nurse from the UK and thought it was about time I shared my experiences with more than just my other half, who puts up with far too much moaning and groaning as it is - sometimes about my work life too!

I qualified in 2006 and worked on a surgical ward for the first 18 months of my career, before recently switching to become an intensive care nurse at another local hospital.

I was inspired, almost instructed in fact, to write a blog by a patient from late 2007 who said he was writing one about his stay on my ward. He had a very strong needle phobia which I hope I helped him get over, or at least deal with, and he said “I bet you’ll write about this in your blog!” Well, yes I have! When Google helps me find his blog, maybe I’ll link to it here.

I have done a number of courses since qualifying with my Dip (HE) in Adult Nursing, most recently the Immediate Life Support course, the ALERT course, as well as the courses to allow me to develop my skills in venepuncture, cannulation, and catheterisation.

I worked as a healthcare assistant prior to my training and feel I have a good amount of stories to share with the surfing world, and as time goes by I hope to share them on this blog, which will essentially be a chronological “reflective diary” of my time as a staff nurse, as well as a place to recount tales from my previous career. I hope you enjoy reading!

Just to re-assure everyone, the names of patients have been changed to completely contrasting names of the actual patients.  If any of the experiences here match any patients you feel you know with the same name, this is entirely co-incidental and is unitentional.  The Coldicott Regulations prevent us from naming patients and ensure patient privacy and dignity, this blog aims to fall within these regulations at all times.
